报告题目:Selling A Product Line through A Risk-Averse Platform


报告人简介:姬翔,博士,中国科学技术大学管理学院特任研究员。分别于2011年、2017年获中国科学技术大学数学与应用数学专业理学学士和管理科学与工程专业管理学博士学位。主要研究方向为运营管理与营销、管理信息系统等领域的交叉研究,以第一/通讯作者在Production and Operations ManagementEuropean Journal of Operational Research等国内外主流学术期刊发表论文60余篇。主持国家自然科学基金项目4项。


摘要:Along with the rapid development of the platform economy, more and more firms sell products through online platforms. While, as the business environment has undergone rapid and frequent changes, becoming more complex with high demand uncertainty in recent years, an increasing number of platforms exhibit risk-averse managerial behaviors in decision-making. The previous literature has paid little attention to the product line strategies of manufacturers that sell through risk-averse platforms. To fill this research gap, this paper analyzes how a manufacturer’s product line design interacts with a risk-averse platform’s selection of selling mode. We apply a stylized model to characterize the manufacturer’s product line design, and employ a classic characterization of downstream risk-aversion. Our results show that downstream risk-aversion can have different impacts on upstream firm’s product line strategy under wholesale and agency contracts. We also show that a risk-averse platform might have more incentives to adopt wholesale contract when the manufacturer caters a product line.
